Driver Manager Talent Pool Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity to join our Driver Manager Talent Pool across the East Midlands Railway Intercity and Regional network.
The Role of a Driver Manager
As a Driver Manager, you’ll play a vital role in leading, supporting, and developing our team of professional drivers. By building positive relationships, providing coaching and guidance, and creating an environment where colleagues can thrive, you’ll help ensure everyone feels valued, supported, and empowered to perform at their best.
Working closely with your team, you’ll promote a strong safety culture while delivering excellent operational performance. Through visible leadership, effective communication, and a focus on continuous improvement, you’ll help ensure the highest standards of safety, customer service, and operational excellence are achieved every day.
As part of the role, you’ll participate in a structured on-call rota, designed to provide effective operational support while promoting colleague wellbeing. Our approach to on-call working is built around effective fatigue management and maintaining a healthy work-life balance, ensuring managers are supported to perform at their best while providing the guidance our frontline teams need, whenever it’s required.
As a Driver Manager you will:
- Live and breathe the East Midlands Railways vision and values to build a culture that integrates Driver activities and focuses on delivery.
- Line manage and support a team of Drivers, supporting welfare and ensuring employee relations matters are handled in a timely manner and carried out with appropriate levels of contact, investigation, and in accordance with Company policies and procedures and supporting employment legislation.
- Negotiate amendments in working practices to improve efficiency and productivity, ensuring that Company and Local agreements are observed and implemented correctly.
- Carry out investigations into operational incidents involving Drivers and develop and implement action plans as appropriate.
- Guide Traction & Operations Training programmes and manuals to ensure course contents and instructions meet performance standards.
- Take an active role in Driver recruitment, appointment, training assessments, examination, and medical fitness.
- Ensure that all records detailing Driver Performance Monitoring systems and incident points/corrective actions are properly documented.
- Carry on-call responsibility when required.
About You:
You will be an aspiring leader with wide technical knowledge and experience in rail operations and train crew procedures, systems, rules, and regulations. You will have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to think clearly and make important judgments in a disciplined and safety-focused environment. Driver competency is required for this role; applicants must hold a valid European Train Driving Licence and have a minimum of 4 years mainline driving experience.
An assessing qualification such as A1 or equivalent is desirable, but training would be provided for the right candidate if needed.
At EMR, we want to proactively embrace diversity across our workforce and recognise that we are under-represented in terms of females and ethnic minority groups. We’re therefore taking positive steps to promote a positive and inclusive culture; we welcome applications from those that identify with these groups to better represent our communities.
