About the Role

This role is responsible for compiling, maintaining, and publishing accurate employee rosters using the Corporate Rostering Tool, ensuring full compliance with national rostering principles, company policies, and operational standards. The post holder will prepare and manage daily and weekly rosters, coordinating cover for sickness, annual leave, training, medicals, interviews, and other special arrangements, while working closely with local managers to validate roster data. They will also manage short notice changes, communicate updates to employees and line managers, and resolve roster-related queries efficiently and professionally. In addition, the role will oversee leave records, support annual leave planning, and ensure safety critical competencies and training requirements are built into rosters so that all shifts remain fully covered. Responsibilities include monitoring competency data, completing pre- and post-payroll checks, submitting late changes to payroll, and analysing fatigue information to flag potential risks. The position also involves providing accurate data to support reporting requirements, contributing to safe, compliant, and effective operational delivery.

Salary and Benefits

Salary – Band 5 (Role Clarity Contract) – circa £29,000 per annum

Experience and Skills

Essential

  • Excellent knowledge of national rostering principles
  • Previous successful experience in prioritising workloads and delivering to deadlines
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Previous successful experience of analysing data and producing reports
  • Understanding of conditions of service applicable to rostering
  • Understanding of roster systems
  • Demonstrable ability to accurately manage data and attention to detail
  • Previous successful experience of working in a team and engaging with virtual team members
  • Able to demonstrate good general IT skills

Desirable

  • Understanding of pay arrangements for rostered staff
  • Geographical knowledge of the route
  • Knowledge of the UK rail industry

We are looking for someone who is organised, detail-focused, and confident working with people and systems. You might come from an administrative, coordination, or customer-focused background and be looking to develop your skills in a new area. Experience in rostering or planning is helpful but not essential, as full training will be provided. We are particularly keen to hear from individuals who are proactive, willing to learn, and able to manage a varied workload.
