About the Role: Surveyor

In the Surveyor role, you will contribute to and support the strategy for Network Rail’s Eastern Region sales and development portfolio. You will establish and run sales projects and contribute to existing schemes to obtain capital receipts for the Region. You will work with Local Authorities to document land transactions associated with regeneration projects around station gateway schemes and public connectivity improvements to make stations and local areas more accessible. You will work up sites to enhance value from development-led disposals and support senior colleagues on projects.

The role will be based in Stratford, London, with travel throughout the region.

Key Accountabilities

  • Establish and run projects and contribute to existing schemes.
  • Implement different approaches to site development to ensure Network Rail achieves the best potential in terms of station enhancements, housing numbers, and site value from development-led disposals.
  • Assist in site marketing and developer/purchaser selection process, with the objective of identifying the most suitable and viable approach.
  • Develop and maintain close and effective working relationships with internal colleagues to enable efficient and effective delivery.
  • Deliver a professional service to all internal clients and external customers, outperforming service targets, and develop strong working relationships with all key stakeholders.
  • Instruct and manage relationships with external agents and solicitors to deliver optimum value commercial agreements.
  • Provide the business with technical leadership on the range of property issues.
  • Develop initiatives to increase Property’s contribution to the cost of the company’s rail operations specifically through delivery of the client requirement and also through identifying opportunities for implementation in other parts of Property teams and the wider company.
  • Identify and exploit opportunities for cost savings, income generation, and capital growth.
  • Identify and share best practice and learnings across the team and wider business and make sustainability a key element of all activities being delivered.
  • Provide the client group and colleagues with consistent and professional advice in determining the most effective approach to project property requirements.
  • Instruct legal advisors to prepare relevant documents required for developments and disposals including contracts, land transfers, and development agreements.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • MRICS qualified.
  • Good communication and influencing skills.
  • Proven negotiation skills.
  • Proven experience of managing a range of property transactions.
  • Good presentation skills.

Desirable Qualifications and Skills

  • Some experience of development and/or disposal projects.
  • Understanding of the rail industry and rail legislation.
  • Full Driving Licence.
