Brief Description

The role of the PICOP is to deliver possessions on time and safely, facilitating the multiple engineering and maintenance works that take place within a possession. At times the PICOP will have to deal with situations as they arise and use their skills and area knowledge to amend possessions to facilitate emergency works or minimise disruption should a possession be overrunning. At times the PICOP will be required to carry out office duties such as reviewing pre-possession plans and attending meetings at the direction of the delivery team, also assisting with the production of possession packs.

About the role

  • Establish and maintain good communications with Signallers, Engineering Supervisors, Protection staff, and drivers of Engineers Trains and On-Track Machines.
  • Monitor possession activity progress and report details to Route Control & Duty Operations Delivery Managers.
  • Maintain track safety competences as directed by the business unit.
  • Deputise for Operations Delivery Manager as and when required.
  • Must be willing to develop presentation and effective speaking skills in order to deliver briefings at pre-possession meetings to a large number of people.
  • May be required to undertake On-Call as determined by the needs of the business.
  • Accountability through robust possession delivery.

Qualifications/Skills

Essentially you should hold the following qualifications/competences:

  • PTS
  • IWA/COSS
  • PICOP/SPICOP
  • PS
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Strong Analytical Skills
  • Computer literate
  • Good Area Knowledge

Desirable:

  • Any AOD Competence
  • ES
  • Safety qualifications

Safety Responsibilities

In accordance with the relevant group standards you are responsible for the effective delivery/management of possession(s), making sure all those working within the possession(s) do so in accordance with the same group standards.

Lead by example and report all potential lifesaving rule breaches and any other issues that have the potential to be a safety concern – using the close call system.

Understand what the risks are associated with the work planned to be delivered and work with the delivery team and the work deliverers to mitigate these risks.

Attend/participate in safety meetings/briefs as and when they are held, in particular the weekly safety hour events.

Any accidents, incidents or near misses to you or staff under your control are reported to Route Control and to the Duty Operations Delivery Manager, and that the Accident Book is filled in promptly where necessary.
