Brief Description

Get your career on track

Looking for a role where you can earn, learn, and build a long-term career from day one? With a starting salary of £31,444 (varying by discipline), a career in rail offers more than just a job, it’s a chance to be part of something that keeps Britain moving. Whether you’re leaving school, changing careers, or returning to work after time away, we want to hear from you. You don’t need previous experience or qualifications; we’re looking for people with the right attitude, resilience, and willingness to learn.

So, what’s the reality? Working trackside isn’t for everyone. It’s hands-on, outdoors, and often around the clock. You’ll face challenging conditions from storm damage and flooding to power outages and fallen trees. But for those who thrive on variety, teamwork, and making a real difference, it’s incredibly rewarding.

Our Rail Operatives play a vital role in maintaining and repairing the railway, responding to incidents, fixing faults, and keeping passengers and freight moving safely across the network. We’re currently recruiting across a range of disciplines, with opportunities at depots in London, Essex and the surrounding areas.

Please note: This is an Inner London Operative talent pool covering London & Essex. If successful, you’ll join our talent pool for up to six months, and we’ll be in touch when suitable opportunities become available.

  • Check that vehicles, plant, tools, equipment and materials under your control are fit for use and are used/stored and disposed of correctly.
