About the Role
Are you interested in Signalling & Telecoms? Do you enjoy hands-on problem-solving and fixing electrical problems? Are you passionate about ensuring passengers get from location A to B safely? Then this might be a role for you! Signalling & Telecoms (S&T) offers a dynamic and diverse role that combines both electrical and mechanical engineering skills. There is a variety in tasks, from using electronic testing equipment to measuring critical electrical parameters, to working with mechanical systems that guide trains, this ensures that no two days are the same.
You’ll be part of a team responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing a wide range of equipment, including:
- Signalling control systems and mechanical signalling
- Track circuits, axle counters, and point machines
- Functional power supplies, transformers, rectifiers, and battery chargers
- Telecoms infrastructure and cabling
- Signals and safety-critical systems
A Technician post builds upon the Operative position and adds more responsibility, including leadership, technical expertise, and oversight of work quality. You will provide support to the Team Leader to organise and motivate the team so that work is undertaken safely, efficiently and to the relevant standards. Undertake inspection, faulting, maintenance and renewal work as allocated and where directed, act as Team Leader. You’ll also accurately report all work completed/not completed and produce/maintain records as required and control and check the quality of work undertaken and confirm assets are compliant to standards.
Essential Criteria
- Experience of arranging and implementing safe systems of work.
- Knowledge of how to organise and control the safe and efficient delivery of work.
- Able to demonstrate, promote and embed safe working behaviours within the team.
- Able to lead, motivate and direct a team.
- Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Knowledge of signalling inspection, faulting, maintenance and renewal techniques.
- Conversant with standards, procedures and instructions.
- Hold and retain competencies relevant to this post, required by business need.
- Ideally hold (or be working towards) an NVQ level 1 or 2 (or equivalent) in a relevant subject or have attained an appropriate level of knowledge through equivalent relevant experience.
- Able and willing to drive vehicles as required by business need.
This role involves days, nights and weekend working, and is a safety-critical role so subject to drug and alcohol testing and passing of the relevant medical assessment. Please note you will be required to live in a 60-minute radius from the location stated on this advert.
