Team Leader – Track Maintenance Inspections: Keep the Railway on Track!

Location: Eastleigh DU

Salary: Starting from IMC20 £38716 + Location Allowance or Standard Maintenance Contract £45669+ Location Allowance

Hours: Full-Time

Shift Pattern: Days, Nights, Weekends, unsocial hours (safety Critical)

We’re looking for proactive, safety-focused leaders to join our Track Maintenance team. In this role, you’ll lead and inspire a dedicated crew responsible for maintaining and renewing track infrastructure—the foundation of a safe and reliable railway network. If you’re passionate about leading from the front, driving safety and performance, and creating a positive team culture, this is your chance to make a real impact.

About the Role

We’ll look to you to direct, organise and motivate a high performing team. From inspection and faulting through to maintenance and renewal, you’ll play a hands-on role. You’ll make sure everything is done efficiently and to the highest standards. Safety will be a priority. You’ll establish appropriate safety arrangements and make sure Network Rail staff and contractors alike follow safe systems of work. Proactively controlling and checking the quality of work and the competence of your people, you’ll see to it that assets are fully compliant, and all vehicles, plant, tools, equipment and materials are fit for purpose. Along the way, you’ll compile a range of vital reports, including those that will be visible to our stakeholders across the business.

Essential Criteria

  • Experience of organising and controlling the safe and efficient delivery of work
  • Excellent communication skills, both in person and in writing
  • Knowledge of discipline-specific maintenance, inspection, faulting and renewal techniques
  • Knowledge of relevant standards, procedures and instructions
  • A clear and inspirational leader with a strong sense of direction
  • Experience in the delivery of heavy track maintenance activities and/or track refurbishments
  • Hold Safety Critical Competencies COSS and COSS CRP
  • Hold Technical Competency Tr04 (Restore track geometry by Manual Repair)
  • Hold Technical Competency Tr11 (Confirm the track is fit for operational purposes following maintenance repair)

Desirable Criteria

  • Hold or be working towards an NVQ level 2 or 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant subject or have attained the appropriate level of knowledge gained through equivalent relevant experience
  • Able and willing to drive vehicles as required by business need, this may also include driving vehicles up to 7.5t and a requirement to upgrade their driving licence by undertaking additional training
  • Hold Safety Critical Competencies Level B Strapping and NSCD Operator
  • Hold Safety Critical Competency Engineering Supervisor

This role involves days, nights and weekend working, and is a safety critical role so subject to drug and alcohol testing and passing of the relevant medical assessment.

Please note: Whilst this role is advertised as Eastleigh, the role will be based at Fareham on completion of building refurbishment.
