We have an exciting opportunity to join #TeamEMR as a Senior Driver Manager based at Derby! As a Senior Driver Manager, you will establish and maintain East Midlands Railways performance ensuring the highest possible safety and operating standards are achieved at all times.

As a Senior Driver Manager you will:

  • Line manage a team of Driver managers to deliver high levels of performance, ensuring employee relations compliance and that all matters are handled in a timely manner and carried out with the appropriate levels of contact, investigation and, in accordance with the company policies and procedures whilst complying with employment legislation.
  • Responsible for coaching developing and mentoring driver management teams performance in line with EMR management competencies and Driver Manager training needs analysis and responsibility statements and setting performance objectives linked to the delivery of The Plan.
  • Ensure all Driver Management activities are completed in a timely manner and to a high quality in line with company standards. Providing workload planning support to the driver managers to ensure time is managed effectively and the outcomes are delivered.
  • Ensure compliance with and delivery of the Driver Competency Management system. Ensuring high quality Assessments are delivered within required timescales and risks are managed appropriately. Approval of quality, impactful competency development plans and performance development plans. Thorough approvals and quality assurance checks to ensure delivery against company standards.
  • Ensure consistent delivery of HR policies and processes by the Driver Management team, through quality assurance activities, including MFA, disciplinaries, flexible working requests and Care and Support Plans.
  • Maximise driver productivity by leading Driver Managers and challenging decisions on release that impact on service delivery, cost or efficiency.
  • Lead the driver management team to deliver operational excellence, ensuring accurate and timely report submissions and the continued promotion of operational excellence principles that support the reliability and punctuality of EMR services for our customers.
  • Lead the application and consistent compliance with and delivery of the EMR Safety Management System. Maintaining knowledge and understand of policies and procedures applicable to drivers to support delivery in line with Safety Responsibility Statements.
  • Oversee the delivery of Safety, Performance and Safety investigations and investigate incidents involving Drivers to support the identification of non-compliance and delivery of continual improvement through the delivery of corrective acts. Providing sign off and quality assurance checks to ensure investigations are delivered in line with company standards (time and quality).
  • Lead on Level 3 Safety investigations and complex HR disciplinary and grievance investigations as instructed, completing these in a timely manner and in line with HR or Safety BP advice. Act as appeal hearing officer as required for decisions made at Driver Manager (or equivalent) level e.g. disciplinary/flexible working cases.
  • Delivery of the ICDR process, assessing the capability of Drivers following driver management investigations and referral to panel.
  • Support with driver recruitment and selection and attendance at assessment days promoting professional driving standards and EMR values.
  • Lead on the maintenance and updating of Route Risk Assessments.
  • Establish a leadership style to promote East Midlands Railway’s vision and professional driver principles. Role modelling and promotion of EMR values to build a culture that integrates Driver’s activities and focuses on delivery in line with Safety, People and Performance business objectives
  • Ensure the maintenance of Driver competency in order to provide CMS delivery support and delivery as required.

About you:

  • Competent Driver with proven leadership capability of motivating, developing and supporting driver teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and ability to lead and influence others and interpret complex and conflicting information
  • Experience of working collaboratively with trade union partners to deliver fair outcomes for the business and people.
  • Retain a detailed knowledge of train crew conditions of service and local Depot codifications.
  • Knowledge of EMR Train operations and geography is essential.
  • City & Guilds or, equivalent L11/L12 facilitating Learning Qualification
  • City & Guilds or equivalent A1 Assessors Qualification
  • City & Guilds or equivalent V1 Verification Qualification
  • Demonstrate competency in Train Operating Liaison Officer (TOLO) Qualification or working towards
  • Demonstrate competency in Signal Sighting with certification or working towards
