Take the Next Step in Your Career – Exam Lead – Selhurst Depot

Looking to move beyond routine maintenance and step into a role where you can lead, influence, and grow? This is an opportunity to join a high-performing engineering team working on modern rolling stock, where your skills will directly impact safety, reliability, and performance.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll play a key role in keeping operations running smoothly—combining hands-on technical work with leadership responsibilities.

  • Carry out planned maintenance and fault-finding on rolling stock
  • Lead and coordinate team activities during exams and repairs
  • Act as a vital link between engineering teams and the production office
  • Support, coach, and mentor colleagues to raise team capability
  • Identify improvements that enhance efficiency, quality, and safety
  • Keep accurate maintenance records using company systems
  • Take on additional responsibilities (e.g. depot operations, forklift duties) where trained

This isn’t just about fixing faults—it’s about improving how things are done.

What We’re Looking For

You’re an engineer who enjoys solving problems, takes pride in quality work, and is ready to step into a more senior or leadership-focused role.

  • Solid understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering principles
  • At least 2.5 years’ relevant engineering experience (including training)
  • Experience in maintenance, fault-finding, or similar environments
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a safety-first mindset
  • Confident communicator with the ability to motivate and support others
  • Minimum SE1 competency (or equivalent)
  • Willingness to learn, develop, and take on new challenges
  • Working towards (or interested in) coaching/mentoring qualifications

Experience with rail or rolling stock is a plus—but not essential if you have the right engineering background.

Why Join Us?

  • Clear pathway into leadership and advanced technical roles
  • Opportunity to work on modern rail systems and equipment
  • A culture that values continuous improvement and innovation
  • Ongoing training and development to grow your career

If you’re ready to move into a role where your experience matters—and your ideas can make a real difference—this could be the right next step.
