What will you be doing?
As the Lead Instructor you will have four main pillars of responsibility whilst maintaining your own competencies in knowledge, standards, and practices within the rail engineering environment. You will need to ensure you stay updated on the latest regulations, industry trends, and advancements in freight stock maintenance to ensure these are integrated into the training materials.
Training Development and Delivery:
Covering various aspects of the rolling stock maintenance, you will develop and deliver effective training programmes in accordance with regulatory requirements, industry best practice and internal procedures. This training will be delivered in a range of methods including a classroom environment, on-the-job training and simulations in order to facilitate an interactive learning experience and encourage active participation and knowledge retention.
Competency Assessment:
You will ensure all engineers possess the required skills and knowledge to perform their duties safely and effectively by conducting competency assessments using a variety of methods, including written exams, practical exercises, and observations. You will maintain accurate records of training completions and competency assessments adhering to regulatory requirements. Additionally, collaboration with the Engineering Training Manager will be essential to develop and uphold individual development plans for Engineering Training Instructors.
Training Materials Management:
To ensure the delivery of high-quality training, collaboration with the Engineering Training Manager will involve creating and maintaining comprehensive training materials, including manuals, presentations, and course outlines, as well as a training material delivery plan. Through this process you will focus on accuracy, clarity, and adherence to industry standards. Additionally, managing and maintaining a centralized repository of these materials will ensure accessibility and proper version control. Updates and developments will be incorporated through coordination with Lead Engineers (ETCS and depot), internal and external safety boards, inspections, and addressing generic training requirements.
Collaboration and Support:
In collaboration with the Engineering Training Manager and Training Coordinator, you will plan and track training activities involving scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation. This process will be supported by working closely with subject matter experts to develop training content that is both accurate and effective.
