The Duty Fleet Manager (DFM) is responsible for coordinating the East Midlands Railway Fleet to ensure that it delivers to the planned daily diagrammed requirements in a safe manner.

The role reports directly to the Operations Delivery Manager and is a shift-based role covering a 24/7 roster 364 days per year. The role ensures that the fleet is allocated to the appropriate diagram to maintain the overall fleet maintenance plan requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Allocate the East Midlands Railway fleet of trains in order to ensure that all planned diagrams are covered in the correct formations.
  • Chair and attend conferences and meetings with multiple stakeholders.
  • Monitor fuel levels and exam miles of all units across the fleet.
  • Working to minimise set swaps, compiling and delivering set swap information to relevant parties clearly explaining the reasons for the alterations.
  • Compile and deliver short/over form information to relevant stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively with EMR Fleet Planning to manage and deliver maintenance plans.
  • Assist with the coverage of Nottingham Operations Supervisor role when uncovered.
  • Organise ad-hoc very short-term planning (VSTP) moves for EMR fleet in order to manage the train service effectively and in response to both planned and unplanned late notice changes to the timetable.
  • Working collaboratively within the East Midlands Control Centre (EMCC) to implement the relevant contingency and service recovery plans during disruption seeking to ensure EMR maintains its service levels pertaining to safety, performance and customer service.
  • Maintain accurate records of fleet allocations using available IT systems.
  • Contribute to the post incident reviews of incidents and train failures when required.
  • Working collaboratively to improve incident response and promote a consistent practice and approach to the management of train faults and failures.

Key Skills Required:

  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Knowledge of EMR company standards, policies and procedures.
  • Good knowledge of the principles of fleet maintenance planning and management.
  • Ability to analyse data and proactively implement changes based on the information.
  • Good knowledge of EMR routes and operations.
  • Ability to influence, motivate and work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • An awareness of the control and fleet delivery IT systems used to manage the allocation of fleet, maintenance schedules and to monitor performance.
  • Experienced with use of Microsoft office packages and a good level of IT skills.
