Dispatcher Mentor Role – Part Time

We’re excited to introduce a brand-new opportunity within EMR stations: Dispatcher Mentor role.

We are recruiting for 1 part-time Mentor. (Part time is 17.5 hours per week)

This role is ideal for experienced Dispatchers who are passionate about developing others and maintaining the highest standards of operational excellence. As a Dispatcher Mentor, you’ll play a vital part in shaping the next generation of colleagues by mentoring trainees through their practical and technical learning, delivering operational training on stations, and supporting key activities such as passenger assistance and security duties.

Beyond hands-on mentoring, Dispatcher Mentors will act as role models for outstanding customer service, demonstrating the confidence to challenge, drive improvements, and leading by example. You’ll support individual training needs, deliver briefings to keep colleagues’ knowledge up to date, and act as a recruitment champion at assessment days. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to broaden your skills, influence standards across stations, and take the next step in your development, with full support to complete EMR Mentor and train-the-trainer training where required.

Responsibilities

  • Mentoring of practical/technical training of trainees.
  • Provide training for operational duties on stations, inclusive of security and passenger assistance.
  • Complete documentation, including feedback paperwork.
  • Act as recruitment champions at assessment days.
  • Conduct briefings with existing staff to update and check knowledge.

What We Are Looking For

  • Minimum 1 year’s experience as a Dispatcher.
  • Role model customer service skills.
  • Ability to coach and support others.
  • Ability to challenge, drive improvements, and lead by example.
  • Supports individual training needs.
  • Has completed or willing to undertake EMR Mentor training.
  • Willing to undertake EMR train-the-trainer training.

Dispatch mentors should cover any locations in their ‘Area’ (with area aligned to the Area Experience Manager’s line of route), provided they have the necessary competence to dispatch and mentor at that location.

Dispatch mentors not being utilized at their primary location will provide cover at their secondary location.

Primary – Nottingham

Secondary – Derby & Sheffield

Please also note – These positions will adopt East Midlands Railway (ex-midland mainline) terms & conditions and any associated allowances.

This role will sit outside of the normal station rostering (rosters yet to be confirmed).
