Network Rail High Speed Ltd. (NRHS) is responsible for operating and maintaining the UK’s only international high-speed railway, High Speed (HS1). The 109km HS1 infrastructure consists of a diverse range of railway assets such as the track, signalling, overhead line, lineside buildings, depots, viaducts and long tunnels. NRHS also operates and maintains three international stations: St Pancras, Ebbsfleet, and Stratford International.

Brief Description

We are looking for an Assistant Track Maintenance Engineer (High Speed) who will:

  • Support the Track Maintenance Engineer and wider team with technical knowledge of the wider track discipline, including management, direction, and compliance throughout the TME directorate.

About the Role (External)

Overview of the Role

  1. Manage the provision of technical support required for all technical works including track geometry analysis and repair, OTM/OTP works, and maintenance plans.
  2. Lead and direct the technical support team in the attainment of relevant function objectives.
  3. Compile renewal proposals for assets that can no longer be economically maintained to required condition and reliability levels.
  4. Undertake surveillance and audit checks to provide compliance with standards and procedures.
  5. Control and brief relevant staff on standards and procedures; prepare and review method statements.
  6. Monitor and report compliance to safety-critical track inspection and maintenance requirements.
  7. Arrange for mandatory or mitigating actions in the event of unsafe conditions.
  8. Submit requests for OTM/OTP, engineering trains, long welded trains etc. in a timely manner.

Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Able to demonstrate relevant railway experience.
  • Able to absorb and recall large quantities of information quickly.
  • Able to effectively communicate at all levels.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Significant track engineering experience.
  • HNC or equivalent in Civil or Mechanical Engineering.

Desirable Skills

  • Technician member PWI.

The role is based at Singlewell, with frequent travel to other office and site locations along the High Speed line expected.

We follow a structured pay framework; any salary offered will be within the following pay range: Band 4C – Β£43,588 – 55,574 (plus Β£1,940 outer London allowance).
