Operational Resourcing Apprentice

Our busy Operational Resourcing team are quite literally the heart at the centre of our dynamic business! Based at King’s Cross, our team of roster clerks, team leaders and managers juggle the schedules of our most vital teams. They co-ordinate the staff who run our trains, stations and platforms, and ensure that our passengers get where they need to go.

They’re the superstars behind the scenes, working closely with our train planning team to make the most of our people. GTR are looking for a dynamic self-starter with exceptional attention to detail. The successful applicant will be a confident communicator, happy to work closely with colleagues not just via phone, email and online systems, but also face to face.

As an Operational Resourcing apprentice, you’ll be the future of this vital function. As well as your structured apprenticeship learning, your role will include:

  • Assisting in preparing, posting and updating rosters for our train crew and customer service staff.
  • Preparing and amending weekly base rosters
  • Managing short-notice changes to the rosters
  • Operating an effective and customer-focused contact system
  • Ensuring that confidentiality is maintained at all times
  • Preparing reports for the management team as required; attending meetings as requested.

On completion of your apprenticeship, you’ll have a formal business/administration qualification, and a good understanding of what makes the railway run.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a future focused individual to kick-start a career in a dynamic and progressive industry, which offers lifelong learning. This is a fixed term contract role within our operational resourcing department. At the end of the formal learning period (normally 12-18 months), you will remain a fully-employed member of the operational resourcing team. Your progression to other roles within the operational resourcing team after this period will be subject to achievement of learning objectives as well as your ongoing ability to display key GTR values and behaviours.

Working for us, you’ll enjoy great company and industry benefits, including free travel on our services (Gatwick Express, Thameslink, Southern and Great Northern) and huge discounts with other UK and international train operators, including London Underground. You’ll get a market leading pension, and fantastic discount schemes. Not to mention, an interesting and varied work schedule, in an environment where learning and progression are actively encouraged.

Govia Thameslink Railway is a partnership between two world-class transport operators – the Go-Ahead Group and Keolis. With nearly 7000 staff across the South East of the UK, we are the largest train operating company in the UK, operating Gatwick Express, Thameslink Southern and Great Northern. We’re here to introduce ground breaking new technologies and carry out the biggest rail transformation in decades.
